city life: talking cake goodness with The Nakery

City Life: Liverpool. Q&A with The Nakery Founder Natalie Shilton on owning Liverpool’s leading vegan bakery.

The Nakery

Q: What inspired you to start the Nakery?

A: Inspiration for the Nakery came from me looking for nourishing treats back in 2015, after healing my once unhealthy relationship around food.

Everything I saw in the supermarket was filled with unnecessary additives and loaded with sugar, I started to make my own from scratch at home with nothing but nuts, dates, cacao, coconut oil etc.

Q: what are the health benefits of the Nakery products?

A: The treats we create are really nutrient dense, you have things like cacao, which is extremely high in iron, magnesium, antioxidants. Coconut oil which contains all your essential fatty acids, and a whole host of other ingredients that are high in fibre, vitamins and minerals.

At The Nakery, you don’t just satisfy your sweet tooth, but you nourish your body too.

Q: What is your most popular item and why?

A: I’d say the PBJ bar as everyone loves the peanut butter & jam combo. It’s been on our menu since the very start and is still as popular today as it was back then!

Q: What are your ambitions for the Nakery going further?

A: I have big plans going forward, and I’ve steadily built my way up to a strong online audience. In the future, I am going to utilise the online platform that I’ve worked hard to build, to introduce other service under the umbrella of The Nakery.

Recently, we have just launched Nakey Skin which is based around 100% natural and organic skincare kits you can make yourself at home.

Q: What is your favourite product and why?

A: My favourite product has to be the celebration cakes we make as it’s a chance to get really creative with the decoration. With the superfood powders we use such as matcha, blue spirulina and pink pitaya the results of this are really colourful and pretty!

galerie de aims favourite Nakery products are the triple chocolate brownie slab & the rawtella slice. (I can’t wait for The Nakery to reopen!)
