A look back on this trip and why you should make it your next destination…
The Canary Islands are one of my favourite holiday destinations because each of its eight islands shares natural beauty while still maintaining its individuality. So far, I have visited four of them, but I still want to explore the other four, which are less travelled and sparsely populated: El Hierro, La Gomera, La Graciosa, and La Palma.
However, in this feature, I would like to spotlight the beautiful island of Gran Canaria, which is one of my favourite islands to visit. I never get bored of visiting it time and time again. This feature showcases the southwest of the island and my recommendations for a peaceful trip to this area of the island. beautiful island of Gran Canaria, one of my favourites to visit and one I never get bored of visiting time and time again.

Playa Taurito
During our recent trip to Gran Canaria, we had the pleasure of staying in Playa Taurito, a small and serene beach area with a few bars and shops that provide a direct view of the beach. Compared to other popular holiday spots like Puerto Rico or Maspalomas, Taurito is a more secluded location, making it an ideal destination for those wishing to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
Taurito Beach, though smaller than other popular beaches on the island, has something for everyone. From sunbathing, and water sports, to photography, the beach offers a variety of activities that cater to varying interests. The beach provides a perfect spot for anyone who wants to relax, while it also presents an opportunity for those who want to engage in water sports.
We stayed at the Suites Princess Hotel, which was a beautiful and well-maintained. All the rooms at the hotel offer a breathtaking view of the sea, and it was one of my favourite things to wake up to each morning. The hotel’s location provided the perfect opportunity to witness the sunsets over the beach in the evenings. I took so many stunning photos of the sunsets every night that my camera roll was just filled with an endless stream of sunset pictures.
Taurito is only a short drive away from Mogan and Puerto de Mogan, two of my favourite places to visit on the island. Taurito Beach is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to stay in a quieter location, away from the bustling and more touristy areas like Puerto Rico or Maspalomas.
Most local restaurants are located within each hotel. However, there are some small bars on the beachfront that are adjacent to two surrounding hotels built into the rocks.
Top Tip: One essential thing to remember about Taurito is that it is more isolated than other resorts on the island. As such, you may need to travel to other parts of the island by bus or taxi, as you cannot walk between the different areas of this part of the island.

Puerto de Mogan
Puerto Mogan is an exceptional location that has quickly become one of my favourite places in the world. This beautiful area is home to some of the most picturesque and brightly painted homes and buildings covered with flowers and plants on the exterior. The stunning port (Puerto) is home to many boats and yachts, giving it an idyllic vibe that is hard to beat.
The village is an excellent spot for seafood lovers, as it is home to many fishermen who provide the surrounding restaurants with fresh seafood daily. I have had some of the best seafood I have ever tasted in this area.
The neighbourhood is a lovely place to be, with a relaxed feel that is hard to come by in other areas. Everywhere you look, you’ll see picture-perfect scenery that will leave you in awe. The sun shines brightly in this area, putting a smile on everyone’s face. As you wander around the area, you’ll notice that everyone appears to be happy and relaxed, enjoying the beauty of the blue waters, clean beaches, colourful buildings, and fresh flowers.
On one of my visits, we rented Paddleboards and a Pedalo on the beach at Puerto Mogan and spent about 3 hours in the sea doing watersports. It was an amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting this area. The clear waters make it an ideal spot for swimming and trying out new water sports activities. The time passes by quickly, and before you know it, you’ll be building an appetite for the many cafes and restaurants located on the beach and port.
We had a tapas lunch at one of the many restaurants surrounding the harbour, and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. One evening, we decided to try out another restaurant called Carpe Diem. We ordered the traditional Paella, which was served at the table from the traditional Paella pan pictured below. The experience was unforgettable, and the food was delicious.
Overall, Puerto Mogan is a beautiful location that is well worth the visit. The area has so much to offer, from the stunning scenery to the delicious cuisine and exciting water sports activities. If you visit any of the locations mentioned in this feature, don’t forget to visit Puerto de Mogan.

Puerto Rico
We visited the busier town of Puerto Rico for the evening. We arrived via a taxi which was only a short journey from the hotel in Playa Taurito. We arrived in Puerto Rico just before sunset and made our way to the Marina Suites Hotel to watch the sun begin to set. The sunset can be viewed from many beautiful places on the seafront and the sun reflects beautifully off the water. However, the lookout point at the Marina Suites Hotel showed the sunset perfectly.
The hotel is also set perfectly facing the Puerto Rico Marina and a short distance from the resort but is still set back just enough for peace and tranquillity from the bustling area of Puerto Rico.
Like Puerto de Mogan, Puerto Rico is also a popular spot for watersports, specifically sailing and scuba diving.
